Quality improvement (QI) in public health involves a deliberate improvement process focused on activities that are responsive to community needs and aimed at improving population health. NACCHO

The goal of this course is to provide a foundation for your local health department's quality improvement efforts.

The content for this online course was recommended by the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment Agency as a basic introduction to QI for the public health workforce. The original content was created by the National Association of the City County Health Officials (NACCHO) and developed into an online course by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment with approval from NACCHO.

Learning Objectives:
» Understand the distinction between quality improvement and other, related activities.
» Understand the phases of a Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle.
» Cite an example of a PDCA cycle undertaken by a local health department.
