Introduction
Everyone should have a basic understanding of how to provide first aid to an animal in an emergency situation.

This session focuses on basic first aid concepts and techniques related to animal first aid.

Learning Objectives
After completing this module, students will be able to:
  • Identify normal versus abnormal physical exam parameters in the dog and cat
  • Understand how to perform a full physical exam
  • Understand how to administer basic first aid
  • Identify the handling and transporting cautions for safe patient management
  • Understand common animal injuries and illnesses
Why This Matters to You
One of two American homes own a pet.  During a disaster pets will be involved.  It is important that emergency and disaster responders are able to identify if a pet is having a medical problem as well as administer first aid if necessary.

There was a lot of useful information for first aid responses on small animals. The information is very cut and dry.
